Long Big Crane Necklace

“HER SOUL SHINES BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN. SHE IS ALL THE COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW IN ONE, AT FULL BRIGHTNESS. “

Long length sterling silver “Big Crane” petroglyph necklace.

The pendant, including loop section, measures approximately 1 7/8″ tall. The imprint of a crane petroglyph is etched deep into the silver. This crane image is inspired by my favourite petroglyph, the ‘Basketmaker Big Crane’, in Utah, USA. What is that next to the crane? The sun (I like to think so), an egg, or a basket? I love how petroglyphs are open to different interpretation. What does she symbolise to you?

The sterling silver pendant has been entirely hand-forged, and given a textured and distressed finish to create a rustic sandstone appearance, like a wearable piece of rock art. It was then oxidised to highlight all the detailing and lightly polished for a subtle shine. Set on a lightly oxidised 30″ substantial sterling silver chain, and with no clasp, this is perfect for popping over the head on your way out when you’re in a hurry. I love to layer my pieces, and this is great layered with shorter necklaces.

Bird cave art is found at petroglyph sites around the world, in various forms and shapes, althought the crane form is rarer than most. Believed to symbolise longevity and creativity, the crane also conveys protection. As a creative, I am spiritually drawn to this image, and have longed for some time to recreate it in metal. The silver somehow seems to glow from behind this design, as if the soul of the image is pushing through the metal.

Wear it as a reminder to do something every day, no matter how small, that makes your soul shine brighter.

As every piece is made individually by my own hand, there will be very slight differences in forging which will make your pendant, in some small way, unique to you.

Part of my “Warriors & Relics” collection, inspired by ancient petroglyphs, talismans and totems. Elegant yet rugged pieces that could have been forged in fires thousands of years ago and only recently unearthed. These pieces represent strength and endurance, not just in the physical realm, but an inner strength to keep you focused forward to where you need to be.

Designed and lovingly created in my studio in Moray, Scotland.

I work in sterling silver, ancient bronze, copper and brass, with natural semi-precious gemstones. I make pieces which are perfect for layering together, mixing and matching, so you can grow your collection and choose your pieces according to your mood, or the inspiration you want to gain that day.

Each piece is unique. Whilst I may create similar pieces, as every piece is made individually by hand, no two will ever be the same. I am registered with Edinburgh Assay Office for precious metal work.
